In a nutshell

As Head of Employee Relations you'll be a member of the People Leadership Team reporting into the Chief People Officer. You'll be accountable for formation and delivery of corporate HR policy, and for establishment and development of collective relationships through Unions and Committees as well as broader ER strategy. Providing legal advice to our Chief People Officer and others, you will lead the Employee Relations team who are responsible for advising the business on matters of policy and supporting change. You'll ensure all policy case work and any external employment legal challenges are handled appropriately for the company to ensure that risks are actively managed and high reputation as a good employer is maintained.

Day to day

Pragmatic, business-relevant advice to the most senior leaders in the organisation
Lead a team to support the business with pragmatism, good counsel and credibility
Form and update the HR policy, ensuring it is easy to understand and fosters the desired behavior which reflects the Virgin brand values
Define the ER strategy for Virgin Atlantic Airways (VAA)
Advise on legal issues relating to Union recognition
Establish and maintain open and constructive relationships with Union officials
Leverage Committees for communication
Manage an employment lawyer and a team of ERCs to provide consistent and valued HR advice
Define approach to performance management to tackle the right issues and treat all parties with respect. Begin process of transferring routine tasks to the business and creating a team for specialist support.
Provide expert guidance and a negotiation brief for all relevant negotiations
Support negotiations, balancing the ER and financial needs of the business
Define strategy for Pay negotiations at VAA.

About you

Do you have proven Employee Relations experience including working with large unions and staff committees? Have you managed IR related conflicts/disputes? Then this could be the role for you.
Alongside the above we’re looking for the following:

* Excellent interpersonal skills building and maintaining effective relationships across a business
* Excellent knowledge of employment law
* Great leadership ability and proven experience leading a team
* Strategic thinking
